Week 14: The Last Lecture
These past 14 weeks have come and gone in a blink of
an eye and I can definitely say that I have come out more knowledgeable and
even a better idea of who I want to be as an entrepreneur. I feel like when we
are all little we all have that great entrepreneur spirit and try to find
things we can sell, even though those items may not be ours, but we go
searching for those items and the people who will purchase them or at least see
our business plan. Even today we can drive down the road and see children selling
lemonade in the summer and hot chocolate and donuts in the winter. But
somewhere along the way we lose that spirit or we get discouraged and then got
too scared to even try to accomplish our dreams as adults. There are those who
have been able to accomplish their goals and then lost their way or who they
were before they tasted success. In a blink of an eye all the money and success
that is accomplished can come and go. All of it can have no meaning to us if we
also lose those who we love, care for, and helped us stay true to ourselves and
our goals. You need to decide right now who you are, what you are willing to
do, what you are not willing to do and who you want in your circle. Once you
can answer these questions it all needs to be written down, so when there is a
point in your journey where there is a road block or a path that may seem
questionable, you would already know the answer and what path to take. Once this
is accomplished also remember to not have dollar signs in your eyes or assume
that you will be rich in months because that will not happen. It can take years
of dedication and loss before money is coming in and even a few more to feel
secure.
But most of all
don’t forget to lead by example, lead by vision, and lead with love. As future
entrepreneurs we will be leaders and as leaders we need to serve others in
life, callings, and in our families. We are to lead as Christ lead and that was
by lifting, building, and inspiring through kindness, love, and unselfish devotion.
As President Kim B. Clark said in his talk, Leadership
with a small “L”, we need to answer the call to be a disciple-leader and lead
with a small “L”.
